Prioritizing Your Health in the New Year
Every Friday we send out an email newsletter with funny stories, top health tips, and things coming up in the community. This was our newsletter from 12/6/24.
Happy Friday!
We're pretty strict 'Christmas-after-Thanksgiving' people - every year we finish off Thanksgiving by hiking into the forest to cut down our tree. π²
However after our tree fiasco last year we were both a little skeptical...
Last year our Christmas tree lost literally EVERY pine needle before January 1st. (This is not an exaggeration - keep reading for video proof). π€¦ββοΈ
Thankfully we got a robo-vacuum on Black Friday and that poor thing had no idea what it was in for when it got unboxed.
We were still finding pine needles hidden in cracks in JULY.
So as you can imagine, one of our big discussion points in 2024 has been, why do you think the tree lost all it's needles?
- Was it just the type of tree?
- Was it too close to a heater?
- Did we not cut the base soon enough before going into the water?
- Was the water not fresh enough?
Regardless we were very adamant this would NOT happen again and our scraggly tree this year is a total prima donna - placed away from the heater, freshly cut base before going in, new water every few days...
So far things are looking good - I'll be sure to report back in January with how it held up.
Makes me think though, imagine we took care of our bodies with the same diligence we're taking care of this stupid tree?
Sure, often you can get away with letting things go South for a bit and be fine, but sometimes it bites you back and you end up in a situation where all your needles fall off.
We're not giving our tree this year a chance to go South. π
And really it's not been that hard.
Just a few minor adjustments, a couple new watering habits... Really the hardest part was honestly making the decision to do it and holding ourselves accountable to it.
What if we could also do that with our health?
I hope you all are enjoying the start of the holidays π Here's to keeping all our needles!

p.p.s. For some holiday cheer - I've shared a video of our tree from last year πͺ΅π¬
