How Physical Therapy SHOULD Be - The i-3 Model

Today I wanted to quickly touch on something you're probably familiar with if you've seen us in Independence, Salem or virtually before - the i-3 model.

AKA why your injury doesn't seem to completely go away, even after traditional physical therapy.

Here are the 3 I's - think of these leading to each other in a never-ending circular pattern 🔄

  1. Incomplete Mechanics: Your body isn't able to do a movement 'correctly.' And because our bodies are awesome, you subconsciously make a compensation somewhere so you can still do that overhead press, make that jump shot, or go on that 5 mile run.
  2. Incidents: These incomplete mechanics eventually lead to incidents—stiff shoulders after workouts, achy-ness after the game, or a small tweak you know that isn't quite right. But, it doesn't stop us from pushing on.
  3. Injuries: And then we hit the big one - the one where most people get help. Incidents will culminate into injuries. The strained rotator cuff, partial tear in an MCL. The 'straw the breaks the camels back' that all the sudden inhibits you from doing that thing you love.

What (typically) Happens Next:

Most traditional physical therapy clinics focus solely on the injury & making the pain go away. Sounds great, right?

Unfortunately not. 👎 The issue here is that the cycle is not broken.

Those incomplete mechanics (the root cause) still exist, which means that before too long those incidents will crop up once again and injury is just around the corner.

The Performx Physical Therapy Approach:

At Performx in the Willamette Valley, our entire focus is on breaking the cycle. 💣

Our goal isn’t just pain relief; it’s fixing those incomplete mechanics so when you're better, you're better for good and have a skillset to stay that way.

3 Step Process

And our dream? ⭐️

That we get to work before the injuries - when you start to have the incidents.

Incidents are a sign that something isn't quite right and you're not operating at your optimal. You have incomplete mechanics.

The sooner we change those - the quicker you adapt, avoid injury, and the lengthy process involved in getting better.

Say goodbye to the cycle. Say hello to lasting well-being

p.s. If you see yourself somewhere in the cycle and you're looking for something different than the norm, let's chat. I do free Discovery Calls to talk about what's been going on & to see if we're the right fit. Find a time that works here.
